This by far has been the easiest recipe that I’ve made in an Instant Pot. It turns out to be super delicious every single time. Super simple. Just pour in all the ingredients and forget about it (only if you can 😉 ).
This takes time but you don’t have to do anything. Just nothing except for waiting for it to be done. You can make it anytime, weekdays or weekends.
So let’s dive in!!

All You Need:
- Milk- 4 cups
- Sugar- ¼ cup – â…“ cup
- Water- ½ cup
- Rice (Soaked for 30 mins)- ¼ cup (if using basmati) or 2 tbsp (if using small grain)
- Kesar- a few strands
- Cardamom Powder- ½ tsp (optional)
- Dry Fruits- 2 tbsp (optional)
A Few Tips:
- You can easily double the recipe. That will make more which you can share. 😀
- Sugar can be adjusted as per your taste. I prefer little less sweet so I use about
- ¼ cup. You can surely adjust as per your taste. Always start with less sugar. You can always add more sugar later if you feel there is any need.
- For the rice, use anything you what you have. If you have only basmati, use that.
- If you forget to soak the rice, take some rice in a bowl and cover with water. Microwave for 1-1.5 mins and use.

Method:
- Switch on the instant pot on porridge mode. You can also try pressure cook mode as well if you don’t have the porridge option.
- Add water, rice, milk, sugar, kesar and cardamom powder.
- Close the lid and set a timer for 25 mins.
- Once done, let the pressure release naturally.
- Open the lid, stir once and select slow cook mode on normal.
- Set the timer for 5 hours. YES, 5 hours!!
- Now just forget about it. You can come in between and stir it once, but don’t worry even if you forget.
- You can adjust the slow cook time to 3 or 4 hours, if you want a little less thick.
- I prefer really thick kheer.
- And it’s done.
- Super Easy and almost no effort kheer!!
- Try it once and let me know how it turned out!! 🙂
