My hubby makes amazing Banana Bread. I don’t like bananas at all but I love Banana Bread. So, whenever we have some bananas at home, we end up making Banana Bread.

But the major problem we always face is the flour, oil & sugar we add in it. This time we thought of replacing all of them with something healthy. It turned out to be really soft, moist and really tasty AND with NO OIL.

Let’s dig right in and see what all we need for this recipe.

Preparation Time: 10 mins    Cooking Time: 1 hour    Serves: 1 loaf (about 20 slices)

All You Need:

  1. Whole Wheat Flour- 1 ¾ Cup
  2. Apple Sauce- ¼ Cup
  3. Eggs- 2
  4. Honey- ½ Cup
  5. Vanilla Extract- 1 tsp
  6. Bananas- 3 ½
  7. Salt- ½ tsp
  8. Hot Water- ¼ Cup
  9. Walnuts- ½ Cup (chopped)
  10. Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips- ½ Cup
  11. Baking Soda- 1 tsp

A Few Tips:

  • This banana bread will be much heavier than the one you make with all-purpose flour as whole wheat flour tends to be heavier.
  • As this bread contains apple sauce and is also made of whole wheat flour, it will last only for a week at max, if stored properly.
  • You need to adjust the honey depending on the sweetness.
  • This bread will be very moist as it is made of whole wheat flour, so don’t leave it in the loaf pan for long once it bakes.

Method:

  • Preheat your oven at 350°F and line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, beat together, apple sauce and honey.
  • Add eggs, one at a time and mix.
  • Add the mashed bananas and vanilla extract. Mix
  • Add the flour and salt. Mix until well combined.
  • In a small bowl, add hot water to the baking soda and quickly mix it and add it to the batter. Mix quickly.
  • Add in the chopped nuts and chocolate chips. Mix. Leave some to sprinkle in the top.
  • Pour the batter to the loaf pan. Sprinkle some chopped nuts and chocolate chips on top.
  • Bake for 55- 60 mins.
  • If you feel that the top in becoming too brown, cover it with some aluminum foil and continue baking.
  • Once baked, check with a toothpick.
  • Cool it on a wire rack. Don’t leave it in the loaf pan for more than 10 mins.
  • Let it cool completely and then slice.
  • Enjoy it with your tea or serve it to guests. It tastes amazing.
  • Do try it. It’s an amazingly and really healthy variation to the banana bread.
